Curveball In The Community

WEAPONS DOWN GLOVES UP

Why we support Weapons Down Gloves Up

Just like us at Curveball Solutions, our client DT Hughes Group is a well-established family business born and bred in Merseyside.

We also share a passion for supporting our community. After hearing about the charity that DT Hughes Managing Director David Hughes is also Director of, we wanted to help.

Weapons Down Gloves Up does fantastic work lifting young people out of difficult circumstances through their S.E.E. model – Sport, Education and Employment.

We’re proud to support WDGU through CSR sponsorship and it’s fantastic to see David not only attending boxing sessions with the young people involved but also providing training and employment opportunities at DT Hughes and their traffic management division, SIte Safe Traffic Solutions.

About Weapons Down Gloves Up

The team at Weapons Down Gloves Up aims to deter knife crime and protect the Liverpool community by offering opportunities to disadvantaged young people through a program of Sports, Education and Employment.

Unemployed young people in Merseyside aged from 19-25 can enrol on a 10-week program with WDGU, that begins with boxing training to build their confidence, and ends with an employment placement. The many benefits that young people experience on completing the program include mental health support, fitness and resilience, education and training and the opportunity for a career in civil engineering.

The fantastic work carried out by WDGU is supported by local sports legends  – boxing champion Tony Bellew, UFC star Molly McCann and football legend Jamie Carragher. Tony and Molly not only work hard promoting the initiative, but they also work with our local young people in boxing training sessions, providing support and inspiration. Tony celebrates successes with graduates of the program, even hosting award ceremonies for young people who have stayed in employment for six months.
